Interview: Jazz Interview – @jazzyxkitten

We caught up to @jazzyxkitten on her gaming adventure so far, cosplay creations and gaming make-up! Sarah has a striking, colourful palette – with plenty of classics, including The Legend of Zelda, Pokémon and Mario!

1) Hey Sarah! Tell us a little about yourself and your game collecting journey so far!

Well I’ve loved video games for as long as I can remember. My dad introduced my brother and I to the SNES and ever since then we’ve got pretty much every console since then. So all of my retro goodies are all from childhood.

I remember my friend actually convinced me to download Instagram a few years ago. I was reluctant at first but I kept experimenting with different kinds of pictures and hash tags.

Then one day I posted a picture of our gaming cabinet and I remember getting so many likes and comments from people who had the same passion as me and it just felt so nice. It was a little place where I could be myself and everyone accepted me. So ever since then I’ve posted more and more gaming content over the years and got to where I am now.

2) What made you start collecting gaming goodies?

Well like I said, I’ve always loved games. I only had a couple close friends in school and they were the only ones I could share my passion with. But after I started Instagram, I felt encouraged to be myself more and embrace my love. I enjoy sharing my collection with people and seeing other people’s collections. So it has definitely prompted me to get more goodies to share, haha. But I do enjoy them.

3) What game/console are you most proud of in your collection?

Oh gosh. I don’t really have any cool special, limited edition, sealed games or anything. But I’m just proud of the old systems that we kept that still work. The SNES, N64, Gamecube, even Sega Genesis, Playstation. Some amazing memories there.

It's Futaba! Sarah's awesome Persona 5 cosplay

4) Love your cosplay/make-up creations, too! What’s been your favourite character to become so far?

Why, thank-you! I haven’t done many cosplays yet but my favourite character I became was definitely Futaba Sakura from Persona 5. I fell in love with her character instantly and I relate to her in some ways. She was super fun to dress up as.

5) Any tips for anyone starting their cosplay journey?

I feel like I’m still starting my cosplay journey haha as I am still learning. But I would just say don’t get discouraged and don’t compare yourself to other people. Cosplay is all about having fun. It might not look how you want it to the first time around but it’s a learning process. There’s also many cosplay tutorials online that are super helpful for anyone making their first cosplay.

6) Your Make-up looks inspired by Pokémon are absolutely brilliant! How did you go about creating your Eveelution looks?

Make-up is actually another passion of mine. I love experimenting with different looks and thought Eeveelutions would be super fun to do. (Which reminds me, I still have to finish those). But I pretty much incorporated the colours and tried to match distinct patterns of each form. (Ears and Tails for example)

7) A tough question, but if you could have a Pokémon companion in real life, what would it be?

Ooh definitely tough. Not sure if it would make a good companion but my favourite Pokémon is Ninetails. Specifically the Alolan form. It’s just so beautiful and majestic! *Cries*

8) Nintendo creates some fantastic worlds! What would you say is just so appealing about Pokémon, Zelda, Mario and co?

They do! I think they are all just so much fun and unique. They are games that anyone can enjoy at any age. That’s why I still love them now ever since childhood. They have a big nostalgia factor yet still manage to keep them fresh with new, amazing, vast worlds. They’ve definitely come a long way.

9) What’s your earliest gaming memory?

My earliest gaming memory is of my dad hooking up the SNES in our basement and showing me this Scooby-Doo game. I remember being scared to play it because I was afraid of losing so he had to take over.

10) What’s currently in your gaming playlist?

Since I’m currently trying to finish Xenoblade Chronicles 2, I’ve been enjoying the heck out of that soundtrack. Gets me pumped.

11) How do you currently go about sourcing new goodies for Sarah’s shelf?

Honestly I just browse through Instagram since I follow a lot of amazing geeky people and see all their cool things and I go from there.

@the_jazzykitten awesome gaming shelf full of retro and current treats!

12) What are your predictions for E3?

Hmm I’m not sure about predictions but I’ll talk about what I’d like to see. I’ve been dying for a new Animal Crossing for the Switch so I’m hoping they’ll finally announce one. I’d also like to hear about the New Fire Emblem and Pokémon Switch titles! Also a date on Kingdom Hearts 3 would be nice.(assuming it’s not another 10 years from now)

13) Where can Nintendo fans find your work?

You can find me on Instagram (Main) and also: my cosplay/make-up account
